CREATING A SPECIAL DAY FOR YOUR FOODIE VALENTINE
By Carrie Steinweg published February 09, 2024
It’s the most romantic time of the year and if you’re looking for some ways to plan a special date night or to carve out a day to dedicate to your special someone, you’ll find lots of things to see and do in the Chicago Southland to make Valentine’s Day memorable.
Beyond heading to one of the movie theaters to see whatever rom com is on the screen or heading to one of the area’s entertainment venues for some romantic music, you’ll likely want to add a meal before or after. Or you can do one better and have a full day together, planning out foodie visits to add even more deliciousness to the holiday.
Here’s a little outline for you for planning a wonderful Valentine’s Day date for the foodie in your life:
BREAKFAST – Start out with brunch in the fun, nostalgic Grady’s Snack N’ Dine in Homewood, where you can share something savory, like an omelet or Bennie, or indulge in some crepes or French toast.
SHOP – Take your sweetie to pick out some new accessories, something new to wear or candles in downtown Homewood and if the weather is nice, take a little walk downtown to peek at some of the fun Richard Haas murals.
WINE AND SWEETS – Stop by Pour On Roy in Lansing and enjoy a glass of wine together, then walk around the corner and pick out some delicious hand-dipped candies at Gayety’s Chocolates & Ice Cream Co., or share one of their oversized ice cream treats.
LUNCH – Make your way over to Frankfort and enjoy some tacos or small bites and margaritas at Fat Rosie’s Taco & Tequila Bar, where there’s a fun atmosphere and great food.
WALK WITH YOUR PARTNER – Step outside and take a leisurely walk together along the Old Plank Road Trail. Forget about the stresses of everyday life and have a conversation about your dreams and what you love about each other—or chat about your favorite restaurants and meals!
BEER FLIGHT – If you’re feeling like a little more shopping, take a walk around historic downtown Frankfort to the boutiques for a new outfit and pick up some gourmet popcorn. Then, end your shopping excursion at Trails Edge Brewing Co. for a flight to taste a few of their craft beers.
AXE THROWING AND GO KART RACING – Chanel your adventurous and competitive side in a round of axe throwing at K1 Speed Mokena, and then race together in electric go-karts that can reach speeds of up to 50 MPH.
DINNER – After you’ve worked up an appetite, you can stay onsite and enjoy a casual meal at the Victory Lap Bar & Grill, or you can head over to Mr. Benny’s Steak & Lobster House in Mokena for a luxurious surf and turf meal.
DESSERT AND WINE TASTING – Swing by Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant in Orland Park where you can visit the wine bar for a tasting and purchase some chocolate covered strawberries to finish off your evening. You can also pick out a bottle of sparkling wine and some truffles to continue the celebration at home or your hotel suite.
