Father’s Day is a day to be celebrated! Take him out and spoil him or let him enjoy a day all to himself. Whatever he decides, the Chicago Southland has something to make him smile!



1. World's Greatest Rolling Car Show

Whether dad likes antique cars or muscle cars, he'll love the Chicago Southland's Annual "Driving the Dixie" event. It involves all makes and models of cars, history, a scavenger hunt, prizes, food and exploring the open road. Click here for more information about the history of the Dixie Highway. Visit the oldest operating businesses along the Dixie Highway, view Sears Roebuck homes, view historic murals in two separate locations and take a trip around the lake. The car show will be held at St. Paul's parking lot located at 18200 Dixie Highway, Homewood. This is a "take your time, travel and explore at your leisure" kind of event.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is sponsoring Free Fishing Days to help you do just that. No need to invest in a fishing permit. On Friday, receive a voucher good for a free one-hour boat rental (excludes paddle boats). On Saturday, receive a box of night crawlers and on Sunday receive a free fishing pole rental. Regular rules and regulations still apply on rentals, such as a cash deposit and a valid driver’s license. District policies also still apply, such as size and quantity limits. Shoreline fishing is accessible. All ages. Free

No anglers, you’re not dreaming, the gates will stay open until midnight for a nighttime fishing opportunity. Fish are often more active at night when the waters are cooler. So let the kids stay up late and bring the family out to enjoy fishing under the stars. The parking lot is well lit and the shoreline is accessible; however, anglers are encouraged to bring a flashlight and bug repellant. The concessions building will be open. Shoreline fishing is accessible for participants. All ages. Free
