Lansing, IL The Chicago Southland Convention & Visitors Bureau awarded $12,000 to four local municipalities and non-profits for upcoming events in the Chicago Southland region through its Local Tourism Matching Grant program. The four grant recipients are:
Aloha Tournaments, Chicagoland LAX Getaway, City of Oak Forest - $5,304 The main event is a youth lacrosse tournament for boys and girls from middle school through high school to be held on September 29-30 at Gaelic Park in Oak Forest. This is the first time this event will be held in the Chicago area and is expected to draw 60 lacrosse teams. The grant will pay for 60% of the costs for an advertisement in Inside US Lacrosse and postcards.
Mutual Aid Box Alarm System Division 24, National Firefighter Combat Challenge - $1,674 The National Firefighter Combat Challenge takes place at 25 locations throughout the United States. Oak Forest will host one of these challenges September 13-16. In addition to area fire departments, Oak Forest is inviting firehouses throughout Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin to attend. Families will also be invited to attend the competition. The grant will pay for 60% of the costs of a brochure and billboard.
Mokena Chamber of Commerce, Annual Food & Wine Fest, Village of Mokena- $3,011 This is the ninth year for the Food & Wine Fest, which takes place on October 6 at the McGovney-Yunker Homestead, a national landmark, with 10-12 area restaurants participating in the event. The grant will pay for 40% of the costs to run ads in the Chicago Tribune and The Times, as well as a brochure and online advertising on food and wine websites.
Lake Katherine Nature Center &Botanic Gardens, Website Redesign, City of Palos Heights - $3,000 Lake Katherine will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary in 2013, and as part of their efforts to increase attendance, redesign of the website is a key component. The website redesign will contain 80-100 pages and will feature multi-level navigation, e-mail registration, social media integration, interactive and downloadable forms, and interactive maps and quizzes. The grant will pay for $3,000.00 of the website redesign costs.

The Chicago Southland Convention & Visitors Bureau developed the Local Tourism Matching Grant program in 1991, and since the programs inception has awarded over $900,000 in grants. Annually, the CVB can award up to $46,000 in five grant cycles. The CVBs Local Tourism Matching Grant Program is designed for not-for-profit organizations and/or municipalities for promotion of their festivals, events, and attractions targeted to visitors outside the Chicago Southland region.
The Chicago Southland CVB periodically hosts Grant Writing Workshops to assist grant writers in preparation of the application. The next Grant Writing Workshop will be September 5, 2012, at 9:00 a.m. in the CSCVB offices.
