Sauk Village Mayor Lewis Towers and Chairman of the Sauk Village Beautification Committee Marva Campbell-Pruitt are hosting the Sauk Village - Celebrating 55 Years of Pride & Progress Dedication Ceremony, Monday, March 12, 2012 at four oclock p.m. at Fairway Foods,1 Sauk Plaza near the intersection of Torrence Avenue and Sauk Trail.
The dedication will celebrate the 55th Year of Incorporation of the Village of Sauk Village along with the unveiling of a new historical landmark, the Lincoln Highway Mural. The ceremony will take place at the site of Sauk Villages Lincoln Highway Mural that was recently installed on March 1, 2012.
The Sauk Village Mural is the twenty-fourth completed mural along the Lincoln Highway corridor. The mural depicts a historical scene of Sauk Village as automobile and livestock shared the Kalvelage Bridge in route to their destinations. Deep shades of golden tones bring the details to life of the early roadway that was so essential to people from all walks of life. Artful design techniques were used to tell the story of how the Lincoln Highway route through Illinois was established. This important area, known as Sauk Trail, was designated as a section of the original Lincoln Highway that ran through eastern Illinois, serving as a major road for daily commutes.
