Whether you are looking to have breakfast with Santa or preparing to run your first Oak Forest Fleadh 5k, let the Winter & Spring 2014-2015 Chicago Southland Festivals & Events Guide bring you from the whimsical holiday spirit through the beautiful bloom of spring. The Guide contains all the information you will need to have fun at any of the 297 family-oriented festivals and events in the Chicago Southlands 62 Communities.
The guide, which spans November 2014- April 2015, includes several holiday celebrations. Holiday Magic at Brookfield Zoo (December 6-7, 13-14, 20-21 and December 26-31 from 4-9PM) features one of the largest holiday lights festivals in the region. With over 1 million twinkling lights, food stands offering holiday treats and a laser light show, Brookfield Zoo offers holiday fun for the entire family. Have you always wanted to experience an Iditarod event? Now is the time with Musher Mania at the Monee Reservoir (January 10th from 12-4PM). A Chicago Southland favorite, come and learn more about the sport, see dog sled demos and of course, enjoy a cup or two of hot cocoa!
Chocolate lovers unite! Homewood is offering a one of a kind chocolate festival that is sure to satisfy your sweet-tooth. Held in the Homewood Auditorium (Saturday February 21st, 11AM-2PM), enjoy ice cream from Mitchell’s Soda Shop or encounter delicious delectable’s from one of the local chocolatiers. Everyone is Irish on St. Patty’s Day and it is not too early to think green! The 6th Annual Oak Forest Fleadh (Saturday, March 7th all day event) is the Irish culture and heritage celebration you need to jump into spring. Race up and down Cicero Avenue during the annual 5k. If running leaves you breathless, celebrate the Irish culture and heritage with a parade, customer appreciation parties and a pub and restaurant open house.
