In-Tents Escape (Camping in Chicago Southland)

You can now make s’mores, tell campfire stories and sleep under the stars Just Beyond the City Limits in Chicago Southland. When you arrive at Camp Sullivan in Oak Forest, an iconic red barn greets visitors with a warm Midwest welcome. Large groups of 36 or groups of 16 can rent bunkhouses while groups of eight can rent small cabins. Then hike more than 13 miles of trails or attend camping skill demonstrations lead by Forest Preserve staff. Camp Shabbona Woods in South Holland features cozy cabins for groups of eight, mulch tent pads for a capacity of six people and a clearing for activities. They’re a walk away from Sand Ridge Nature Center where you can explore nature and animals during the day. At Emerald Trails Campground in Crete, spend a day enjoying the majestic beauty of Lake Jewel, then slumber in one of their 140 total camp/RV sites. Or check out Enchanted Shores RV Park & Campground in Peotone, where you can rent tents by the day or week and RV sites by the day, week or month. At Goodenow Grove Nature Preserve in Beecher, campsites range from full sun to full shade on flat to hilly terrain. Happy Camping!
