2020 Chestnut Road | Homewood, IL 60430 | (708) 798-3000
Since 2007, the elevated train watching platform in Homewood has been a popular destination because of its location, amenities and train traffic. Located less than a mile south of Canadian National's Markham Yard and Moyers lntermodal Facility, railfans can view three types of trains that pass by the handicap accessible platform including regional commuter (Metra), intercity rail (Amtrak) and freight.
The platform is adjacent to the Homewood Metra Station (expected to complete its $20.7M renovations in late 2024) within Homewood's vibrant downtown area complete with a variety of restaurants and shops. On the west side of the tracks, a Spanish revival-style train station was completed in 1923 and is still fully functional as the entrance to an underground pedestrian tunnel that leads to the Metra and Amtrak loading platforms. A refurbished IC engine and caboose are also on display on the west side of the tracks.
