Play Ball!
Travel Inspiration
If you’re a fan of America’s pastime, you can enjoy the game at many levels in the Chicago Southland. From casual play to Major League Baseball, you’ll find teams and venues to entertain you.
Get a taste of baseball the way it was played back in 1858 by seeing a game of the vintage base ball team, the Blue Island Brewmasters. You’ll feel immersed in the 19th century while you watch players in period costumes with vintage-styled equipment interact with the cranks (fans). It’s old-fashioned family fun at its finest and a great history lesson to boot. See game schedule at BlueIslandHistoricalSociety.com. Stellwagen Farm in Orland Park also hosts vintage baseball games in the summer.
The Windy City ThunderBolts will kick off their 21st season this spring at Ozinga Field in Crestwood. As a professional minor league baseball team in the Frontier League, the ThunderBolts won the Frontier League Championship in 2007 and 2008, only the second team in league history to win back to back championships. The Frontier League is now the oldest professional independent league in the country.
With 23 players who have reached the Major Leagues after playing for the team, it’s a great opportunity to see some potential future Major Leaguer stars in the making. You’ll find much of the big league action and fun, but at minor league prices. Check the season schedule for discounted ticket days and special promotions at WCThunderBolts.com.
Guaranteed Rate Field offers some of the best values on ticket prices of the 30 major league teams in a modern ball park with premium seating, suites, patio party spaces and a number of statues honoring past players. Although the stadium has only been around since 1991, the team has a long history that dates back to 1894 and has a faithful fan following. The stadium is also known for its abundance of creative food choices that go way beyond hot dogs, peanuts and Cracker Jacks.
See the fireworks on the field and in the sky as you watch this promising team work their way toward representing the American League Central Division in the postseason. Be sure to put seeing the Chicago White Sox on your itinerary this season! For more info, visit WhiteSox.com.
